Join KC Creates and Fringe Festival theater lovers on our first group tour! We are traveling down the highway to Independence, Kansas, home of the William Inge Theater Festival. In its 36th year, this wonderful festival features three days of new play readings, workshops, and gatherings with artists, actors, playwrights, and other theater enthusiasts. This year’s recipient of the William Inge Distinguished Achievement in Theater Award is Beth Henley, author of many noteworthy works for stage and film, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning “Crimes of the Heart.” Our friends at the Inge Festival are offering a special package for KC Creates. You can attend all three days of events, which include the New Play readings and workshops, conversations with Beth Henley, and all the ticketed social and VIP events, Wednesday-Friday.

Kansas City local playwright and producer Forrest Attaway, artistic director of Kokopelli Theatre Company, is co-producer of this second year of the Play Lab, which features 36 new works by playwrights from 15 states. He will be bringing some of our favorite Kansas City actors to present these one-acts. Social events include a Hometown Cookout on Wednesday evening, the President’s Reception with Beth Henley on Thursday evening, and a festive dinner honoring Ms. Henley, the Inge Family, and the Master Writer’s at a private home on Friday. In addition, our group will enjoy a special tour of Inge’s Independence.

More information about the festival and all events can be found at, including a complete schedule.

We have an Early Bird discount of $200 for all 3 days until March 22nd. Our KC Creates discount is $250 until April 5th. This is a savings of $150 over the regular Festival packages. If you are interested in staying for the Saturday events and Gala Dinner, please contact Meagan Moore at (620)332-5648 for more information. We are holding a block of rooms with two double beds at the Super 8 in Independence at a special price of $61/room per night, until March 31st. Contact them at (620)331-8288 and ask for the “KC Creates/KC Fringe rate.” We are also considering renting a van or facilitating car pools, if there is enough demand.
